University Circle, a vibrant neighborhood in Cleveland, Ohio, is home to world-renowned cultural institutions, including the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, and Case Western Reserve University. The neighborhood is also known for its beautiful tree-lined streets, adding to its charm and livability. However, in recent years, University Circle has faced challenges related to tree removal. The aging population of trees, coupled with the need for infrastructure improvements and new developments, has resulted in the removal of numerous trees in the neighborhood. Residents have expressed concerns about the impact of tree removal on the neighborhood’s character and environmental health. To address these concerns, University Circle has developed a Tree Removal Policy. The policy aims to balance the need for tree removal with the preservation of the neighborhood’s tree canopy. The policy requires that any tree removal must be approved by the University Circle Design Review Board. The board reviews each tree removal request on a case-by-case basis, considering factors such as the health and condition of the tree, the potential impact on the neighborhood, and the existence of alternative solutions. Additionally, the policy requires that all approved tree removals be replaced with new trees.
